History
Water polo in Kazan has got rich traditions and long history.
Kazanian water polo players appeared first in the All-Union Games of "Spartak" society competition in the year of 1950 in Lvov. The team was under Anatoly Panaioti – the one who started water polo in Kazan.
In 50-s – 60-s the achievements of Kazanian water polo were more than modest, though, they say, a strong river starts with a small streamlet. From the very start, our teams were characterised by sports fighting character, when partaking in the tournaments of all ranks.
First achievements date back to the time 50-metres swimming-pool "Orgsintez" had been put into operation. In the year of 1973 there emerged masters water polo team "Sintez", though, some sources consider the team’s birthday - November -1974, when the first water polo tournament for "Kazanorgsintez" prize took place.
Among the first coaches, who put much efforts to water polo development in Kazan, was Oleg Novak – the director of the sports school and chairman of the sports Committee of Kazan.
In the year of 1975 "Sintez" entered the 1-st league of the National Championship of Russia. Merited coach Vyatcheslav Sakharov (as a matter of fact, the first head coach of the team "Sintez"), Alexey Chernykh (the first captain of the team) and Valery Lulyukh (head coach of "Sintez" for 1975 - 1995) contributed much to further development of the club.
As a result, two years later, in 1977, the team won silver medals of the national Championship of Russia. 5 players from "Sintez" entered Russian select team competing in the USSR Championship. Another success occured to the team the same year. Juniors of the club won the Youth USSR Games.
In the year of 1980 the team won gold medals of the National Championship of Russia, and the second success came as the gold medals of the National Youth Games.
In the year of 1983 the select team of Russia won the National Championship of the USSR. Victor Yakovlev, Dmitry Vakhromeev and Andrej Ostrobokov put large contribution to the victory. All they were awarded by the gold medals.
In 1985 and 1989 the team "Sintez" became the Champion of Russia, gaining the title the third time.
"Sintez" started partaking in the elite league of the National Championship of Russia since 1993 and since 1995 already got the right to play in the European Cups, thus increasing the popularity and image of the team.
In 1995 the team was headed by the coach Evgueny Mishin, under which the team ranked the 4-th place in the Russian National Championship.
In March, 2002, the team "Sintez" changed the head coach, the position took Roustam Yumayev – graduator of the Kazan water polo school, former captain of "Sintez".
Since June, 2004, the team was headed by the merited coach of Russia Vladimir Zakharov. To begin with, "Sintez" gained bronze medals of the National Championship of Russia in the season 2004 – 2005, awarded the Cup of Russia in 2005, entered the final "Len Trophy Cup" in 2006 and earned silver medals of the National Championship of Russia (2005 – 2006). One season later "Sintez" brought "Len Trophy" (2007) to Kazan and finished the 1-st in the National Championship of Russia (2006 - 2007).
Together with the team, from the very first day of its existance, is one of the world best referees Andrej Afanasiev.
One of the symbols of the present-day "Sintez" and Kazan water polo school ismerited water polo master Irek Zinnurov, silver and bronze medalist of Olympic Games in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004). Graduators of the Kazan water polo school Alexander Boiko and Nicolay Sharafeev used to represent the Republic of Tatarstan in the USSR national team. Later on, forward Igor Gorbach and goalkeeper Oleg Vladimirov joined the USSR team.
For the 30 years JSC "Kazanorgsintez" is the only sponsor of the team "Sintez". Nail Yusoupov, Leonid Alekhin, Marat Mukhametshin, Il Aitugannov, Gaifutdin Shaikhiev, Anatoly Brikker and Ilshat Mingazov put large contribution to the team development.
